College of Nursing PhD Distance Learning
In fall 2002, the University of Utah College of Nursing implemented a pilot program that would utilize Internet-based videoconferencing technology to deliver doctoral nursing coursework to students located across the country. The program has since proven to be a great success, as 17 of the 29 students enrolled in the original cohorts have graduated, and the 11 remaining students are still making excellent progress through the program. As a result, the College of Nursing PhD Program transitioned to the piloted distance format in fall 2008, and continues to accept applications from around the globe from applicants who wish to obtain a PhD from the University of Utah utilizing the same Internet-based videoconferencing technology.

As a PhD student, you will come to campus for orientation in your first year, then week-long intensives each subsequent year of coursework.

The PhD program is designed to foster strong relationships between students, advisors and faculty. This is accomplished in a variety of ways: from working with advisors and together on projects, to each year, PhD students and faculty meet at the Gerontological Society of America annual meeting. Other PhD students attend different conference as a cohort, depending on their research interests.
